Conoco Norway captures knowledge with OpenJournal™
Heidrun, a billion barrel oil field offshore Norway, has been on production
since 1995. Conoco Norway, a partner in the field, works closely with Fortum
Petroleum and field operator, Statoil, to optimize hydrocarbon recovery. However,
Statoil's asset team is located in Stjordal, a two-hour flight away from Conoco's
headquarters in Stavanger. Frequent face-to-face meetings, therefore, would be
inconvenient, time-consuming and expensive. Using OpenJournal™ Conoco Norway's
team has successfully documented workflows and shared
its knowledge with Statoil by way of the Worldwide Web.
"With OpenJournal, you can document your work as you go along.
It's so simple to use, it doesn't upset your train of thought. It
keeps all of your ideas, illustrations and thought processes in
logical order. You can capture anything you've got up on your screen,
including email. It doesn't matter what application you're using.
And because it automatically converts your document into web format,
you can communicate your interpretation anywhere in the world".
- Iain Murray, Geologist, Conoco Norway
Statoil feeds corporate IT portal using
MindShare
Statoil's IT group in Stavanger, Norway, are responsible for providing
information regarding IT services across the company via the corporate
web portal. Much of this information is constantly changing and
needs continual updating and uploading to the corporate portal by
various members of the IT group. To achieve this efficiently, the
IT team has been using MindShare to add and edit information which
is then viewed on the corporate portal via the MindShare web interface.
Corporate IT users are guaranteed up to the minute information as
the content they are viewing via the corporate portal is being pushed
straight from MindShare. The IT team have a single, shared workspace
for adding and editing content, and there is no longer any requirement
for training on portal publishing - its all automated by MindShare.
Chevron streamlines its information delivery
using OpenJournal™
Chevron's geologist and geophysicists routinely use OpenJournal™ to document
technical workflows. This has recently been extended to paperless
technical
presentations, in an industry that relies heavily on maps and large amounts of
traditionally paper-based media. "In the past, an hour before presenting
to management, they would be hanging logs and maps on the wall, trying to make
sure everyone
in the room could see them. Now they walk in with an OpenJournal presentation,
show it on the projections system, and walk out." - Donna Rowell, Application
Support, Chevron. Chevron's management have also appreciated the ability to locate
and link directly to up to date presentations that are available via the web
-
a
common problem in a global industry that is characterized by global teams.
